Deutsche Annington: New Books for the Max Wittmann School in Eving
Bochum, June 5th, 2007 - Deutsche Annington Immobilien Group (DAIG, Bochum) made a donation of €2,500 to the Max Wittmann School in Dortmund-Eving for their library. A total of 220 new books, ranging from reference books to cookbooks, were purchased with the money. The Max Wittmann School assists some 380 children, ages 6 to 18, who are mentally handicapped.
“We are pleased to be able to help improve the Max Wittmann School’s collection and to fill a few gaps in the bookshelves with our donation,” explained Thomas Jacobs, Chairman of the Viterra Association. “Reading and mental handicap are not necessarily compatible at first glance. Depending on age and ability, reading can mean recognizing the polar bear from the illustrated story. Others can understand the entire story, or are even able to extract information from a specialised book on their own. Our school library’s motto is therefore: ‘Whether big or small, books for all,’” added Frank Schmidt-Kamann, Principal.
The money for the donation comes from the Viterra Foundation, with which Deutsche Annington, in cooperation with the German Tenants’ Association of North Rhine-Westphalia, promotes local projects to support socially responsible fellowship within their portfolio.
